Beef stew recipe
Ingredients
- 500g beef stew meat (cubed)
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil (sunflower or olive)
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 large carrots (sliced)
- 2 medium potatoes (peeled and cubed)
- 1 cup green beans or frozen peas (optional)
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or mixed herbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 beef stock cube or 2 cups beef broth
- 1–2 cups water (adjust as needed)
- 1 tablespoon cornflour or flour (to thicken, optional)
Beef Stew Instructions
🔥 Browning the Beef:
- Pat beef dry and season with salt and pepper.
- In a large pot, heat 2 tbsp oil over medium-high heat.

Sear beef in batches until browned on all sides (about 5–6 min). Remove
and set aside.
🍅 Building Flavor:
- Stir in 2 tbsp tomato paste, 2 tsp paprika, and 1 tsp thyme.
- Add the browned beef back into the pot.

Crumble in the beef stock cube (if using) and pour in 1–2 cups water or
beef broth.
🥕 Add Vegetables:

Add potatoes, carrots, and any other veggies like green beans or peas.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer.
- Cover and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours until beef is tender.
🧂 Season and Thicken:
- Taste and adjust salt and pepper.

To thicken: mix 1 tbsp cornflour with a bit of cold water, stir into the
stew, and simmer for another 5 minutes until thickened.
